Travel Destination: Spain – Lloret de Mar and Girona
Most of this territory lies on the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula, to the south of the Pyrenees Mountain range. Catalonia is administratively divided into four provinces: Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona. The capital and largest city, Barcelona, is the second-most populated municipality in Spain. In addition, the fifth-most populous urban area in the European Union. It comprises most of the former Principality of Catalonia. It is bordered by France (Occitanie) and Andorra to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the east. Finally the Spanish autonomous communities of Aragon to the west and Valencia to the south. The official languages are Catalan, Spanish, and the Aranese dialect of Occitan.
Travel Destination: Spain – Lloret de Mar and Girona
Lloret de Mar is a popular coastal town located in the province of Girona in the Catalonia region of Spain. Situated on the Costa Brava, which translates to “Wild Coast.” In addition, Lloret de Mar is known for its stunning beaches, vibrant nightlife, and rich history. Here are some key aspects of Lloret de Mar:
- Beaches: Lloret de Mar boasts several beautiful beaches, each with its own unique charm. Some of the most well-known beaches include:
– Lloret Beach: The main beach of the town, characterized by its golden sands and clear waters. It offers various water sports activities and is surrounded by bars, restaurants, and shops.
– Fenals Beach: A slightly quieter alternative to Lloret Beach, known for its lush green surroundings and calm waters.
– Santa Cristina Beach: A picturesque cove with fine sands and clear waters, surrounded by pine trees and offering a more secluded atmosphere.
- Nightlife: Lloret de Mar is famous for its lively nightlife, making it a popular destination for young travelers and party enthusiasts. The town offers a wide range of bars, clubs, and discos that stay open until the early hours.

Lloret de Mar Sites

- Day Trips: Lloret de Mar’s location makes it a convenient starting point for exploring other nearby attractions. Above all, the city of Girona, the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, and the charming coastal town of Tossa de Mar.
It’s important to note that while Lloret de Mar offers a lively atmosphere, it may get crowded during peak tourist seasons. For instance, especially in summer. In conclusion, as with any travel destination, it’s a good idea to plan your visit based on your preferences and interests.

Tarragona is a historic city located in the Catalonia region of northeastern Spain. It is the capital of the province of Tarragona. And is known for its rich Roman history, stunning architecture, beautiful coastline, and vibrant cultural scene. Here are some key aspects of Tarragona:
Roman Heritage: Tarragona was once an important Roman city known as “Tarraco.” In addition, the city boasts a significant number of well-preserved Roman ruins and monuments, including:
- Tarragona Amphitheatre: This ancient Roman amphitheater is one of the most impressive in Spain and could accommodate around 14,000 spectators.
- Roman Walls: The city’s Roman walls, which once protected Tarraco, are still visible in certain areas. They provide a glimpse into the city’s ancient past.
- Roman Forum: The remains of the Roman forum, where the administrative and public life of Tarraco took place. Similarly, it can be explored in the city center.
Tarragona Sites
- Tarragona Cathedral: The Tarragona Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Saint Mary, is a stunning example of Gothic and Romanesque architecture. Similarly, it houses an important collection of religious art and offers panoramic views from its bell tower.
- Mediterranean Beaches: Tarragona’s coastline offers beautiful Mediterranean beaches and coves. Other nearby beaches, such as Playa de la Arrabassada and Playa de la Savinosa, are also worth visiting.
- El Serrallo: This charming neighborhood is Tarragona’s fishing district, where you can find seafood restaurants serving fresh catches of the day. Therefore, it’s a great place to sample local culinary specialties and experience a more traditional atmosphere.
- Modern Tarragona: While the city is deeply connected to its Roman past, Tarragona also has a modern side. It hosts various cultural events, festivals, and exhibitions throughout the year, showcasing the vibrant cultural scene of the region.
- Human Towers (Castells): Tarragona is known for its participation in the Catalan tradition of building human towers, known as “castells.” These intricate human pyramids are often performed during festivals and represent teamwork, strength, and unity.
- UNESCO World Heritage: Above all, Tarragona’s Roman archaeological ensemble has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Above all, recognizing the city’s historical and cultural significance.
- PortAventura World: Finally, located just outside Tarragona, PortAventura World is a popular theme park resort. In other words, it offers a variety of rides, attractions, and entertainment options for visitors of all ages.
Tarragona’s combination of historical significance, architectural beauty, and coastal charm makes it a compelling destination for travelers interested in exploring both ancient history and modern Catalan culture.
Travel Destination: Spain – Barcelona
We were in Barcelona during the heatwave that affected most of Europe over the summer of 2022. It did not take anything away from the fantastic experience we had in this great city. Barcelona is a city with a wide range of leisure options. In other words, visitors love to come back over and over. In addition, as one of Europe’s trendiest cities, Barcelona overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. Furthermore, it is famous for Gaudí and other Art Nouveau architecture.
We found to be true the description on Spain’s official tourism page: Barcelona is “a hub of new trends in the world of culture, fashion, and cuisine. It combines the creativity of its artists and designers with respect and care for local traditions. The charm and slower pace of the old town (Las Ramblas), the avant-garde vibe of more modern neighborhoods, and the fast pace of one of the world’s most visited cities coexist in Barcelona.”
